The Colonial Inn

The Colonial Inn

It was a gorgeous Fall day up here in New England. Went for lunch at The Colonial Inn in Concord… yum. The chicken pot pie is not to be missed.

Now that Fall is here, I thought I’d take a walk through Sleepy Hollow to visit Author’s Ridge. Felt like a New Englandy thing to do!

Hartwell Tavern

Hartwell Tavern

Hartwell Tavern was built between 1772-1773 and sits on a section of the actual “Battle Road.” It was here at the time of the American Revolution during the battle on April 19, 1775 and is called a “witness house.”

Orchard House

Orchard House

This was the Alcott family home from 1858 to 1877. This is also the site where Louisa May Alcott wrote and set “Little Women,” in 1868. When I was a little girl my grandmother told me “every young woman should read ‘Little Women’” — it is and always will be one of my favorites. I’m so glad I got to take her here for a visit last fall. It was a special day for both of us.
